Successful entrepreneurs have a special sense of identifying needs in the market and providing just perfect-fitting solutions for them. And really successful entrepreneurs never cease to amaze by venturing into multiple businesses and always staying one step ahead of the competition with a leader’s mindset. We’re honoured to have one of these representatives at this edition of Techsylvania, an American entrepreneur, who’s one of the most prosperous in the world — Mark Cuban!

Mark started building on his business empire at the very young age of 12, when he was sharpening his entrepreneurial skills by selling garbage bags from door to door. One of his early ventures into the business world was co-founding Broadcast.com, the leading provider of multimedia and streaming on the Internet. Broadcast.com was sold to Yahoo! Inc. in July, 1999 for a staggering $5.6 billion.

Entering the second millennium triumphantly, one of the first steps he made was to purchase the NBA team Dallas Mavericks on January 4 2000. Mark Cuban has become well-known as a prominent voice in the American business landscape with his team and proudly declares himself a Maverick.

In 2005, Cuban invested in Brondell Inc., a San Francisco startup making a high-tech toilet seat called a Swash that works like a bidet but mounts on a standard toilet. “People tend to approach technology the same way, whether it’s in front of them, or behind them”, Cuban joked.

A few businesses later, Mark decided to inspire the world with his thriving example and maybe lend some of his skills to future generations, and therefore he wrote “How to win at the sports of business”, a title that couldn’t have described him better.

Today, among his multiple pursuits, he stands out as a TV star on the popular show — Shark Tank, where he showcases his investor skills. Since starting in season two in 2011, Mark has invested in 85 deals across 111 Shark Tank episodes, for a total of $19.9 million invested. The actual numbers vary because the investment happens after the handshake deal on live television after the due diligence is performed to ensure the accuracy of the information presented in the pitch room.

We’re proud to have one of the savviest businessmen in the world at Techsylvania 2020 and can’t wait to get inspired!

He will be interviewed by The Most Feared and Well-Liked Journalist in Silicon Valley, Kara Swisher, Co-Founder of tech & media publication Recode. They will have a thought-provoking conversation on Entrepreneurship as a Driving Force for Growing the Global Economy.
